Tea and the rainy season

It's June, meaning that we are well into the rainy season. There's so much to expect from this weather, like a bit of cold, maybe fever, and also the sudden need to cuddle.

But really, How cold is the rainy season in Nigeria? Well, it's not that cold, you see. There's something about rain, it's cathartic. When it rains it's like the whole land is being washed of its sins. So, rain makes us feel sober, and it is this soberness that amplifies the cold. Plus the grey heavy skies cast a feel of gloom on everyone below.

The mosquitoes also seem to multiply during the rainy season. I mean, it's obvious, water is a medium for mosquitoes to breed. This is why we must be careful during this season not to contract malaria.

So how do we wash away the gloom of the rainy season? Simple, by drinking tea. There is something about tea that makes us feel alive. First it's warm or hot, second the steam, it enters our body and heats up the cold parts. It is this rising steam that fights against the gloom cast by the grey skies. Grey implies sadness and melancholy, we know this.

So until the skies are blue and clear again, let's all make some hot tea and sit by our cups by the window and feel alive.
