Is Biafra really Nigeria's problem?
They can't secede, they can't secede... hold on a minute, why can't they secede? Because it's "treason"? And when did treason become such a huge crime in Nigeria? The United States of America can cry treason, Russia can cry treason, France can cry treason, but Nigeria... that's a big joke.
What is wrong in Biafra becoming a sovereign state? What is wrong if one out of six children wants his alone time? A child has a right to privacy, yes? If parents force an introverted child out of his shell, isn't that a form of child abuse, isn't that emotional abuse? A child wants to be left alone, so leave him alone. Yes, he still remains part of the family, but his private time is his private time, it's his existential right.
Instead of focusing on very pertinent issues, the Nigerian government is busy shooting and arresting MASSOB members. Is that really what is affecting us right now? I choose to differ. If only the Nigerian government tried to understand this child that is Biafra, then maybe parents and children won't quarrel and fight each other! You can't use force to bring up a child, as much as the government can't force Biafra into the family.
Just like gay rights, Biafra is another sensitive issue that the Nigerian government can't handle. Instead, the government resorts to force. You can't force gay people to be straight, it is a natural defect. At the same time you can't force Biafra to feel comfortable as part of Nigeria! Third-world countries like Nigeria are not intellectually equipped to deal with uprisings such as Biafra and gay rights. And Biafra's case is way more reasonable than the latter.
The Niger Delta is being abused, and Nigeria is the big bully. The government sucks oil from their lands and pollutes the region. Their soils are contaminated, their water is contaminated, their lives are affected. They can't grow crops! They have to buy their food from the big bully. Which should make you think; is Nigeria a country at all? Nigeria operates more like a land of pirates than as a republic. The government doesn't care as long as the North sell their food to the South and get the South's oil. Which begs the question; what's in it for the South? Nothing, more like destruction. The Niger Delta is literally being sucked dry! You might say give them some more money in compensation. But does money rectify land that fast? 100 million barrels of petroleum were spilled into the Niger Delta between 1960 and 1997 due to faulty pipelines and accidents.
And now we are saying the child should not fight? But the child is dying! It is the nature of any organism to fight in the face of danger. The Niger Delta have a right to fight. The Nigerian government is killing them. Vegetations spanning hundreds of thousands of hectares have been drenched in crude oil. Nothing can grow there, absolutely nothing. Niger Deltans face serious health challenges; breathing problems, skin problems, malnutrition. And what is the 'big bully' doing about it? How many cleanup operations have been carried out in this region? None!
If the Nigerian government continues to neglect the region, then the region will secede. It might not be now, maybe in 10 years, maybe in 50 years. But the child will grow and leave his parents as all children must.
