Has Trump met his match?
U.S president, Trump, is know for his careless and unpolitical manner of speech. And this has been further exposed by the war of words between the U.S president and Kim Jong-un, North Korean president.
As usual, Donald Trump swore to unleash 'fire and fury' like the world has never seen before if North Korea continues threatening the U.S, and in turn, Kim Jong-un has vowed to make U.S 'pay the price'.
Trump accused Kim of being 'very threatful', but let's take a moment to analyse this... We all know that Trump is the master of threats; the things he said pre and post election. So it's all so funny that the pot is calling the kettle black.
Has Trump met his match?
David vs Goliath: North Korea vs U.S
U.S president Donald Trump has promised 'fire and fury' on North Korea if it keeps threatening the U.S.
This is after the U.N laid fresh sanctions on North Korea, further estranging them from the world.
North Korea president, Kim Jong-un has vowed to make the U.S 'pay a price'.
For now, it's a war of words. But could we see anything more endangering?
N11tn hypocrisy
A human rights advocacy group submitted a report on the 9th of August on how previous ex-presidents squandered eleven trillion naira ($29.9b) on electricity without significant result.
The 65 page report called for the prosecution of all those involved in the N11tn power scam.
It will also be good to note that since the current administration assumed power in 2015, there have also been billions of naira spent on the power sector, and no tangible results to show. So Nigeria is still in the era of diesel and gas powered generators and this doesn't seem to change any soon.
Which begs the questions, what is then the difference between the previous 'corrupt' administration and this self-righteous one?
Take your time because the question above might just be a N11tn question.

Nigerians don't have the right to protest, says police
The protesters were shot teargas, beat, and dragged. Many of the protesters sustained injuries.
The command spokesman said, "the police prevented a breakdown of law and order, and disturbance of public peace in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja by dispersing some hoodlums and other criminal elements that infiltrated the protest being carried out by a group of concerned Nigerians."
Were cameramen part of the 'hoodlums'? Should the Nigerian police be lying?
Does this act of violence by the Nigerian police mean that Nigerians have no right? Beating innocent citizens because they are protesting is a breach of fundamental human rights. The police should apologize and pay damages too. Nigerians, just like any other people of the world, have the right to protest. Nigerians have the right to say 'enough is enough'.
Nigeria on the verge of division?
Nnamdi Kanu, the same man that called Nigeria a 'zoo' is still agitating for a sovereign independent State of Biafra. 47 years after the Civil War, and there is still tension in the region.
Kanu was arrested in October 2015 on counts of treason. He spent more than a year-and-a-half in Kuje prison, Abuja (FCT) awaiting trial. He was later released in April 2017 on bail, after which he return to southeastern Nigeria where thousands are rallying behind him.
A country battling with multiple threats such as domestic terrorism, political instability, and recession should not be further burdened with threats of division.
Nnamdi Kanu is currently speaking for the secession of Biafra. He has been spotted amid crowds, holding a mic and speaking passionately about the incompetence of the Nigerian government and the actualization of Biafra.
The question remains, how will a possible Biafra secession help Biafra or Nigeria?

Return or Resign: Nigerians have spoken
![]() |

The Nigerian president is at large, literally. Ever since president Muhammadu Buhari left the country to London on a sick leave he's yet to return, and Nigerians are pissed.
The picture above illustrates a peaceful protest urging that the president return from London or resign. It's been 92 days since he left! And according to the constitution, the President would be declared unfit to rule if not on seat for 90 days. Today makes it 90 plus 2 days, and counting.
The political meandering exposes the incompetence and corruption of the Nigerian government. If a President is indisposed for an allotted number of days, then he should truly be declared unfit to rule.
This unhealthy clinging to power is pulling the country down. One would think that it's the same ruling party after all, but in Nigeria's case it's more than that. This is tribal, this is North vs South.
There are rumors about the president's state of health and a possible return date. But frankly, when is our president coming back? Or, would he ever come back?
How much should a club spend on a player?
Neymar Junior just made a $264,000,000 move from Barcelona to PSG, a record fee indeed, highest ever.
The astronomical amount left the world shocked and there were lots of reactions. I mean, let's ponder about this for a bit... two hundred and sixty four MILLION dollars! I mean, who does that? Well, PSG obviously.
The world made a fuss about Paul Pogba when Man U coughed out $130,000,000 to bring the youngstar to Old Trafford.
But now Pogba's fee pales in comparison to Neymar's.
But really, how much can (no, should) a club spend on a player? $500,000,000? A billion?

Feminism, the downside
The way girls are practicing feminism in African countries these days is highly unhealthy.
On homosexuality

I'm not sure the pope's stance will sit well with Catholics. Homophobia is born from sexual sentimentality and not religious, although they exaggerate each other. The thing is, yes, the pope is the leader of the Catholic church but everyone kind of takes religion into their hands. Some Catholics might agree with the pope, and some might not.
The Anglican church and the Redeem Christian church (Nigeria) have both condemned the pope's stance, saying that "homosexuality is a biblical issue..."
But they are wrong! Homosexuality is a "biological" issue and not biblical. Religion only serves to butress one's sentiments towards homosexuality and not cause it.
Religion should operate within its borders and leave the issue of homosexuality to human rights.

The negative Nigerian
Everyone has something to say about their country. It may be good, it may be bad, but everyone has a feeling concerning the state of affairs. And it is normal for a person to vent his concerns about his country. Even more so in developing countries, African countries. Africans feel the need to compare their various countries to other countries, like Nigerians.
Nigeria is fast developing, doing better than most other African countries. A foreigner would think Nigerians feel hopeful about their country, but that foreigner would be wrong. The typical Nigerian has nothing but complaints to say about his country. He complains about everything; about electricity, about salaries, about politics, about bad roads, about everything. The typical Nigerian is a negative Nigerian.
He is always complaining about the country. These complaints have become a kind of language he speaks. He calls his friends on the phone, he complains. He's on Facebook or any other social network, he complains. He's in his house, he complains.
The typical Nigerian is blameless. He blames everyone but himself for all his problems. The President suddenly becomes the reason for all his problems. He talks down on other Nigerians for ruining the country while he omits himself.
Nigerians must get rid of this negativity and start taking responsibility for their lives and country. Blame yourself for all your problems, yes, because you let others create them for you. You can blame the president and the government all your life and nothing will change. Only you can cause your own change.

Insomnia, the battle
It's been a tiring day, stressful even, but you can't sleep. Why can't you sleep?
Insomnia, that's why. You can't sleep because your mind is forever active. Your mind is noisy and unruly. You're on your bed, your eyes are shut, but sleep isn't coming to you. It's a struggle, it's a fight. You plead with your mind to let you sleep, but it keeps on and on disturbing those crucial hours of rest. There are people who by just closing their eyes fall into deep sleep. You envy them, you want to be like them. You wish you could fall fast asleep like them.
Well, there is a solution to your sleeping problem. You see, you can't sleep because your mind is ever screaming, always active, too much noise in your head. You are going to have to silence the voices in your head, the thoughts. How do you do this? Simple, just think of something stupid. Yes, you read right, as you lie on your bed and shut your eyes try not to force yourself to sleep by begging yourself to sleep. All you need do is think of something stupid.
The period of sleep awakens funny activities in the brain, you begin to dream things that are impossible, dreams that you forget as soon as you wake. What does this tell you? Well, it gives us a better understanding of the nature of sleep. The things we see while we sleep don't make sense. So, isn't it a matter of commonsense that nonsense thoughts actually could make you sleep? Yes, think of funny things while your eyes are shut, think of a flying mat or a taking wall or tree, or a mysterious story. This is the fastest way to fight insomnia and to enter the realm of sleep. Don't try to logically force yourself to sleep, it won't work. Sleep in not logical. So think crazy, think impossible. The crazier you think, the faster you fall asleep.
On storytelling
Are you a storyteller? Do you often want to talk about what happened once upon a time? I guess this is natural. Everyone has a story, and most people want to tell their stories. Life itself is a story, full of events.
Now, the urge to tell your story is the easy part. Actual telling of your story is the hard part. Think about it, life happens to us all, we all have stories, but then I won't know your story or people won't know your story if you don't tell it. That's the simple truth.
Telling a story could be hard, that's what I wanna talk to you about. First of all, there are many ways you can tell your story; by writing, singing, painting, talking, etc. But let's focus on writing, the literary aspect. You have your pen and paper or a laptop, but you can't write. Why?
What's stopping you from writing? What's stopping you from telling that story? Lack of muse? Writer's block? There are so many thing that could hinder you from expressing yourself. But first let's talk about the reality of self-expression. Thinking is easier than doing. You know that, right? Dreamers and doers... entertaining storylines in your mind is the easy part, but when it comes to putting that story down physically, then so many rules emerge. Rules that make self-expression difficult; language rules, comfortablity factor (are you comfortable?), clarity (that story that you got right in your mind, are you sure it's as complete as it feels?)
In the mind, emotions are in charge. But in real life, details are in charge. When we think about a story in our minds what we really experience is how the story makes us 'feel', not how it happened exactly. So each time you sit in front of your laptop or phone or with your pen and paper, know that what you're about to do is going to be very tasking. Not because you're not good at it, but because you're transcribing from one form of experience to another, from emotions to details. So don't rush, take your time, writing stories take time.

Lagos-Ibadan Deathway
Almost every day there is an accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Every day I pry into the news, accident. It makes me wonder; what is really going on on that road? Why so many accidents? Well, I did my research, and these are my findings:
Between Jan and June (six months), over 80 people have lost their lives to accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. 80!
June 24 (this June) -- 4 killed; truck collided with commercial bus.
June 22 -- 3 persons died; a tanker fell, and people gathered with buckets to siphon fuel (they were warned). An impatient bus driver tried to manoeuvre through the gridlock and scratched his silencer against a concrete block, there was a spark, which ignited a fire that spread to the tanker and BOOM! 2 people scooping fuel died on the spot together with an escapee.
June 19 -- 19 persons died (see the correlation?) also on the Lag-Ibadan expressway. A tanker tried to overtake a truck and in the process collided with a fully loaded commercial bus killing 19 passengers on the spot.
Jan 7 -- truck crashed into van, 3 dead
Jan 13 -- 5 crushed to death in an accident involving a truck and a commercial bus.
Feb 5 -- truck rammed into Toyota Sienna, luckily no fatalities.
March 17 -- 10 crushed to death, bus collided with truck.
May 3 -- 13 burnt to death, SUV tire blew and caused a ripple effect of accidents.
Are you seeing the connection here? The commercial buses a.k.a danfo? The trucks? The tankers? These are the elements of any major accident on the Lagos-Ibadan express way.
Another evident factor is IMPATIENCE. These commercial bus drivers literally want to fly on the road, and the truck and tanker drivers that are meant to go slow and steady also want to fly! The danfo drivers will say they are trying to save time and increase profit by quickly dropping off passengers and picking new ones. But at what expense?
You see it's not so much the speed as it the impatience that amasses the death toll on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Vehicles trying to overtake other vehicles.
People blame the incessant construction projects going on on the expressway, alongside the potholes (bad roads), but in truth the drivers are to blame. They have to learn to muster some patience. Lives are at stake.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Police Force should do more than anything else to correct the mentality of these drivers. And we the drivers, please let's learn to take it easy on the road, our lives depend on it.
Tea and the rainy season
It's June, meaning that we are well into the rainy season. There's so much to expect from this weather, like a bit of cold, maybe fever, and also the sudden need to cuddle.
But really, How cold is the rainy season in Nigeria? Well, it's not that cold, you see. There's something about rain, it's cathartic. When it rains it's like the whole land is being washed of its sins. So, rain makes us feel sober, and it is this soberness that amplifies the cold. Plus the grey heavy skies cast a feel of gloom on everyone below.
The mosquitoes also seem to multiply during the rainy season. I mean, it's obvious, water is a medium for mosquitoes to breed. This is why we must be careful during this season not to contract malaria.
So how do we wash away the gloom of the rainy season? Simple, by drinking tea. There is something about tea that makes us feel alive. First it's warm or hot, second the steam, it enters our body and heats up the cold parts. It is this rising steam that fights against the gloom cast by the grey skies. Grey implies sadness and melancholy, we know this.
So until the skies are blue and clear again, let's all make some hot tea and sit by our cups by the window and feel alive.
Psychological effect of Facebook block
People block people all the time on Facebook. But let's talk about the psychological effects of being blocked on Facebook.
I have to say, it is very painful when someone blocks me for whatever reason. When someone blocks you on Facebook you can't view their profile anymore, you can't send them messages, and you're automatically unfriended. You click your blocker's name and it tells you "Content not available". And you can't help but think what must be going on on the person's profile.
The most painful part of being blocked is the 'rejection'. No one likes to be rejected, it makes us sad and lonely. And being sad and lonely on Facebook isn't what anyone looks up to, right? We are all on social media so feel some happiness, to escape. The thing is everyone is caught in the heat of the moment on Facebook, we say things that are out of place, we quarrel and fight and just like that someone gets blocked.
How many people are blocked on Facebook every day? Can a you take a guess? A thousand? A million? Ten million? Hundred?
The fact is no one deserves to be blocked. Facebook has so many alternatives to blocking a person. You can unfollow the person, unfriend even, or restrict. You wouldn't like to be blocked even if you're on the wrong, so let's try not to do same to others.
